Here are just a  few lovely comments that people have given about my illustrated talks, guided walks and coach tours of the Peak District and Derbyshire.

Thank you for an excellent day out on Tuesday. So many customers said how much they enjoyed your commentary and the day out. I think you set a lovely pace exploring and learning about Derbyshire and time in Buxton. Thank you for making the day out so wonderful. Would love to come back next year, is there something different we could do with you? Looking forward to more tours in future.Jacky Burnell, Wisteria Tours

Well, Ellen, I just had to email you straight away – I was bowled over with the pictures and with your talk. How very enjoyable it was. Thank you so much. I will surely be visiting some of the places!! I am sure I speak for not just the Committee but for the membership as a whole. Wendy Woodhouse, The Ranmoor Society

We all thought your talk was excellent, despite the comments from the audience about the Vivat Trust! It was most informative and a completely convincing argument about Hathersage’s place in Jane Eyre’s plot. Very many thanks. Best wishes. John Talbot, Hope Historical Society

Many many thanks for giving us such and interesting and enjoyable visit today. I have had very positive feedback from all the participants who felt that you could assess your audience effectively and so pitch your vast knowledge at just the right level. The smiling happy faces were such a joy to behold. I’m just sorry that I had underestimated the timings, but at one point I mentioned to a small group that we were running late, and they hadn’t even noticed! I’m sure that you have sparked interest for future visits to the Peak District. Jean, U3A Northern Towns Group.

Ellen,  What a splendid talk you gave us on Friday. EVERYBODY said how impressed, entertained and educated they were by the content and your presentation: Ellen was invited to give a lecture at the 2019 Elizabeth Gaskell Conference. Her title was An Introduction to the Peak District and its Literary Heritage. It became clear that Ellen had spared no effort in preparing material for the somewhat highly educated and knowledgeable audience. They all loved her presentation. She showed herself knowledgeable, amusing and able to engage her audience by inviting them to participate on many occasions. Her knowledge about the Peak District is extensive, to say the least. Whatever you ask of her, I’d guarantee that you would not be disappointed. Dr Jean Alston, Elizabeth Gaskell Society.

What a wonderful tour you gave us, we were all amazed how extensive Eyam really is. Quite a few went to the hall and church afterwards and everybody had an interesting time. Thank you very much. Hanneke Dye, Upper Wharfedale Field Society

On behalf of the club I would like to extend our thanks for a super day; your knowledge of the county continues to fascinate us. We look forward to the next time we meet, so until then, best wishes. David Melton, Scarsdale Rotary Club

Thank you for your talk last night on Glorious Gardens, very interesting and though we might have visited one or two of the gardens there was a lot of relevant information such as visiting at a different time of year. From members requests I shall have a look at your other talks for future programs. Gill, Secretary – Holmesfield Gardening Association

On behalf of myself and the ladies of Gawsworth WI, I would like to thank you again for taking us on a walking tour of Hathersage. The stories, facts and interesting items that you pointed out along the way kept the ladies enthralled, and the beautiful countryside scenery was breath-taking. I hope we can meet again, and you will show us another gem of the Peak District. Linda Robson

We booked Ellen for the first time but this will definitely not be the last. Ellen was very informative and the group thoroughly enjoyed her guided tour of the Peak District taking them to interesting places they had never been before. Thank you Ellen. Paula Roe, Angela’s Holidays

Thanks so much again for the tour; it really was exactly what I wanted when I asked for your help in designing a tour to see the political and social life of Derbyshire in the past. I was incredibly impressed by our coverage, from what seemed to be the small corners of the county to the well-known estates. The tour of Tissington was eye-opening, and I so much appreciated all of the monuments that you found for us to look at in various country and town churches. I now have a tremendous amount of illustrative material for my students. Again, many thanks! Professor Noah Dauber, Colgate University, USA

Ellen, Can I please thank you from the bottom of my heart for a truly fascinating tour on Tuesday 9th May 2017, I must admit that at first I wasn’t looking forward to the trip as I didn’t think anyone could tell me anything about my area. How wrong I was! your knowledge is beyond belief, I did not realise how much the Peak District, My Peak District, has to offer in history let alone beauty, Once again, Thank You. Les Ashmore

Thank you so much for your talk this evening Ellen on Pubs and pub signs; I know all the Ladies enjoyed it very much I enjoyed it for a second time, there was so much I had forgotten!! (I already forgot the Chapter and verse in Hebrews regarding the Hope and Anchor – sorry – perhaps you could let me have it again… I intend to make sure our lovely Vicar Alex and her husband Nick are aware of it – great stories, who would imagine the biblical connections to our pubs!) Thank you again. Look forward to meeting up some time in the future. Ann Preston Moorend WI

Of all the places and sights I experienced in the 5 weeks I was in the U.K., the day spent with you at Chatsworth remains the highlight, your knowledge and way of imparting that knowledge made my two days in the Peak District most enjoyable, also your company as well. So thank you very much.
Karen Noonan, Australia

If you are looking for someone to show you around the Peak District then look no further ! Ellen is the perfect companion and has a very deep knowledge of the area, its history , culture, geology, and rural tales to tell. We spent a day with her and felt enthused and wanting to see and hear more of this stunningly beautiful part of the world. Richard Charles, Wiltshire

Linda Dyson The Belles of St Henrys

This was the third year running that you have guided our travel group on a trip to the Peak District and, once again, it proved immensely successful and very much appreciated by everyone, despite the tumultuous weather. What the party enjoyed was not only your fascinating guided walks in Hathersage and Bakewell but also your very varied commentary as you guided our driver through the delightful countryside. What we, as organisers, also valued immensely was the help and advice you always willingly gave us in helping plan our very full day, suggesting what proved to be excellent choices for morning coffee and lunch. Also many thanks for your initiative in coming along with an emergency fall-back talk – just in case the weather proved too awful. We almost regretted the weather wasn’t bad enough for us to hear you talking about the Peak District! Irene and John Flood, Ilkley U3A

Penistone Probus club would like to sincerely thank you for the talk you gave on Blue John yesterday. We were impressed by the professional delivery and the passion you had for this fascinating subject. It certainly created a buzz afterwards and everyone wanted me to pass on their appreciation. I will be in touch to book another talk next year. Hugh Kennon

Our Buxton guide Ellen gave an informative, and detailed where necessary (but never boring!) walking tour of The Crescent and Pavilion Gardens area of town. There was so much to see, especially when Ellen “opened our eyes” to all that was around us – a walking tour immensely enjoyed by everyone. The Institute of Agricultural Secretaries Annual Conference

It seems a long time ago since, after our visit last year to Eyam, you came up with the idea of a trip to Buxton but your suggestion proved to be an outstanding success with, afterwards, everyone in the party euphoric about what a superb day it had been and how much they had enjoyed it. We’d like to thank you for your advice in setting up the day and for the lovely walk you took the two parties around the town – and what a fascinating story you had to tell us in such stunning surroundings and how interestingly you put it over.  Irene and John Ilkley, U3A

Many thanks for a most enjoyable, informative and entertaining walk. Without exception our members said they will definitely revisit – for you showed them a Bakewell they never knew existed. A most successful day Jenny, MBMU3A

After dinner on Friday we were enthralled by a talk given to us by Ellen, which included the background to Blue John Stone, the unique mineral found in the area; she then moved on to the many locations of special interest in the area. Our appetite was whetted to visit as many as we could from her words and pictures, with many making notes for the future. You will gather Ellen’s evening talk was a triumph and well enjoyed by everyone. The Button Hook Society

Ellen many thanks for the most enjoyable day with you last week. Your knowledge of your home region is excellent and your love of it spilled over to us. Your sense of humour matched that of our party of 42 retirees. Even those who came with the impression that we were in the frozen north were converted. David White, President, PROBUS Club of Horsham Forest

Thank you Ellen for the inspiring talk you gave our group last night. We all discovered interesting details unknown to many of us….and we will be asking you to return.  Audrey Bramah, Buxworth and Chinley Women’s Fellowship

Just a note from us to thank you for making our group’s first trip to your area such an enormous success – even allowing for some less than ideal weather.  Everyone found your very natural commentary with humorous asides helped enormously to bring to life the wonderful collection of buildings and your lovely countryside – it was quite fascinating and just right.  (Not to mention the way you managed to fit in directions to Richard, the driver, in between gaps in your commentary.)  We were also very grateful for your help in making sure our rather tight schedule ran so smoothly…the success of the day has already led to encouragement from our leader to see if we could give some thought to arranging another visit with you for a future season. John and Irene Flood Ilkley U3A

Just a note to thank you for your most interesting guided tour yesterday. Everyone enjoyed it and want to come back to spend more time in some of the places we saw. Hope to be in touch again in the future. Thank you again. Marj Atlay, Day Trips Organiser, Maghull and Lydiate U3A

I would like to thank your for your most enjoyable talk… as always it was very interesting and the photographs were fascinating – I have never seen Toad’s Mouth and the Winking Man look so spectacular… I am sure you will be asked back again with another talk Felicity, Hope Valley Ladies Tangent

Many thanks again for entertaining our members to another fascinating and informative talk on ” Derbyshire Buildings and Curiosities “. It certainly kept them awake and spellbound – well done. It is remarkable that so many historical features are scattered all over the wonderful county of Derbyshire. Many members who were born and bred in the county did not know of their existence. Geoff Middleton-Taylor

Hi Ellen,
Just a few lines to say a big thank you for excellent guiding on 18 October.  Bill, the driver, informs me the tour was a huge success and it is with no small part down to you. The feed back from the passengers has been great too. So many thanks and we very much look forward to working with you in the near future. Kind regard, Deborah Williams, Harris Executive Travel

Thank you very much again for delivering an enthralling talk – Peak District by Pictures. Our vote of thanks reflected how facinating , informative and worthwhile your pictures and narration demonstrated the beauty and history of The Peak District.I know we all learnt some new facts about this wonderful area – even people who have lived locally all their lives. I am sure my members will be delighted to ask you to join us again next year to hear another one of your talks. Geoff Middleton – Taylor, Hope Valley 41 Club – Speaker Finder

Ellen, has ticked the boxes for Sheffield Vulcan Rotary Club. I approached Ellen to see if she would do a “Talk & Walk” for us around a Derbyshire village or town, on the Tuesday evening after the August Bank Holiday. She agreed and it was such a success that it swiftly became an annual event, usually being fully subscribed. Ellen gave us a wide insight into the village, or town, with relevant history & appropriate titbits. Her knowledge of both area & people gained us access into places we would not have seen for ourselves. The Talks & Walks are always entertaining, educational, & recreational. Roger Hart Chairman, Vulcan Rotary Club

Ellen,I would like to thank you so much for making our day out so enjoyable. The members of the WI and friends said it was one of the best. Your commentary was superb, it was a day we shall certainly remember with great pleasure. I am sure Derbyshire will be on a future list to visit again. Marjorie Dakin Chorlton and Cuddington WI

Thank you Ellen for a really interesting evening. Much appreciated by all – such a lot we didn’t know about Castleton despite many previous visits. Hilary Clarke Longstone Local History Group

I have worked with Ellen Outram for a number of years, and she has organised a number of media trips for me to the Peak District and Derbyshire in that time. She brings courtesy, clarity and efficiency to her job. More to the point, she is good at it. I consider her to be an outstanding source of story and feature ideas, for which she draws on her extensive local experience. Mark Rowe Travel Journalist

The Friends of Scottish Opera have been enjoying Ellen’s entertaining and informative talks and tours of the Peak District since the year 2000! We particularly appreciate her charming delivery and the beautiful pictures with which he illustrates her presentations. Our 2012 talk in July lived up to all our expectations. Friends of Scottish Opera
