This unique colourful ceremony, not seen anywhere else in the country, and thought to have connections back to Celtic times, happens every year in Castleton. On Oak Apple Day – the 29th May a King and Consort ride around the village followed by the village band and dancing girls – but that’s just the overview. Royal connections, Morris men background, a mayday Maypole and cenotaph service, discover for yourself what goes on and see the ceremony in full colour pictures.
