Ellen Outram - The Peak District and Derbyshire Blue Badge Tourist Guide

Some people would like to know the background of the person they are employing – so here are my credentials!

I have worked for the Peak National Park Authority in all their Tourist Information Centres and previously their mobile caravan since 1983. This included places all across the Peak District, and gave me a wide ranging passion for the area I live in. I have also been lucky to regularly represent the Peak District at Events and Exhibitions both national and international in order to ‘sell’ the place as a holiday destination.

After in depth training as a Blue Badge Guide I was lucky to be awarded the badge in 1992 and have subsequently taken out tours, walks, and put on illustrated talks since then.  Since qualifying I have been a member of The Guild of Registered Tourist Guides and hold their insurance, which is renewed annually.

For those who like the formal paper work I also hold a Teaching Certificate and a BA Honours in Communication Studies. In addition I have various Marketing and PR qualifications from the years when I was seconded from the PNPA to Visit Peak District (the mini local Tourist Board at the time) as PR and Marketing Executive.
Though I have worked in the area, in tourism, for a long time and have a vast reservoir of local knowledge, believe me, I don’t give ‘dry as dust’ tours and can tailor everything to suit the different clients I meet.  Allow me to help you get under the skin of the place and hear the interesting little snippets which make the area so fascinating to live and work in and of course for you to visit.
